TACLOBAN CITY— The Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet 2026 has officially started. Student-athletes from all over Eastern Visayas meet in various sporting events. The Regional Athletic Association Meet is held annually as a celebration to honor Eastern Visayas’ best young sporting talents. Each division is represented to showcase sporting ability, determination, and team spirit. The opening celebration involved lots of energy with colorful displays, a delegate parade, and the ceremonial lighting of the games’ torch, which represents the unity and the spirit of competition. Local government representatives and leaders from the school boards spoke during the event. They positively reinforced the importance of sports in the overall development of the students and the spirit of the region. Participants face each other in multiple events during the week of the competition. Athletics, basketball, volleyball, and swimming are all included. The competition is fierce as participants are vying for the opportunity to represent Eastern Visayas in the Palarong Pambansa — the Nationals. The competition stakes only increase as the Regional Athletic Association Meet is held annually. The organizers prioritize the safety of all participants, as well as the implementation of fair play. The community across Eastern Visayas is inspired, as the young athletes are talent, and showcase the games of the competition.

More than 10,000 athletes and delegates filled Baybay City with energy as the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet 2026 officially opened on March 1 at the Binaybayon Sports Complex.

Among the most electrifying delegations was Tacloban Phoenix, led by Raymund Romualdez. Dressed in bold red, the team energized the crowd with spirited cheers and performances, earning warm applause from spectators despite the intense heat.

Baybay City, Leyte — ACLC Tacloban Phoenix soared to victory and secured their place as the Queens of Basketball in Eastern Visayas after a commanding win in the EVRAA 2026 Basketball Girls 5v5 Secondary Division.

The Phoenix showcased dominance on the court, overwhelming the Eastern Samar Valiant Hawks with a decisive 80–51 victory at the Hipusngo Gym. From the opening quarter, Tacloban established control with sharp offense and solid defense, leaving little room for the Hawks to recover. With consistent scoring and strong teamwork, ACLC Tacloban maintained their lead throughout the game, sealing the championship title in impressive fashion. Their performance not only highlighted their skill and discipline but also solidified their reputation as one of the top teams in the region.
The triumph marks a significant achievement for the team, bringing pride to Tacloban City and affirming their dominance in this year’s EVRAA competition.

BAYBAY CITY, Leyte — The Tacloban Phoenix showcased grit and determination as they secured a bronze medal in the Basketball 3x3 Secondary Boys category during the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association 2026 held in Baybay City. The team, composed of Quin A. Berdan, Iho C. Boco, Joshua De La Cruz, and Shan Daniel L. Lagahit, delivered a strong performance throughout the tournament, overcoming tough competition from across the region. Guided by Coach Sotero Sultan, the squad demonstrated teamwork, discipline, and resilience on the court. Their efforts paid off with a podium finish, adding another achievement to Tacloban’s growing sports legacy. The bronze medal victory reflects not only the players’ dedication but also the continued strength of grassroots basketball development in Tacloban City. The Siglaro Elites of Ormoc Division delivered a dominant performance in the Eastern Visayas
Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Women’s Volleyball tournament, sweeping the Golden Sunrise Warriors of Borongan Division in straight sets. Ormoc quickly took control in the opening set, showcasing powerful serves and well-executed spikes to secure a 25–16 win. Their strong defense and effective blocking limited Borongan’s scoring chances early on. The momentum continued in the second set, as the Siglaro Elites maintained their intensity with consistent attacks and precise ball control. Despite attempts from the Golden Sunrise Warriors to recover, Ormoc remained composed and closed the match with a decisive 25–13 finish. With this victory, the Siglaro Elites boost their standing in the tournament and establish themselves as a strong contender in this year’s EVRAA Women’s Volleyball competition.

Their teamwork on both ends of the court proved too much for their opponents, as they controlled the pace and maintained a solid lead. This marks the first time in 11 years that Baybay City has hosted the annual regional sports gathering.
